Why I'm Running

My name is Frank Burns. 

I’d like to introduce myself and tell you a little about what led me to run to become the next Delaware State Representative from the 21st District.

I've talked to so many in our community who are ready for a change. I'm running to ensure abortion is protected as a human right, our kids and communities have safety from gun violence, and every Delawarean has a living wage.

I have personally battled many of the same obstacles you may have experienced, both in my personal life and professionally as a scientist preventing disease in our food supply systems. 

I regularly stand alongside families fighting for their loved ones whether by volunteering with the Food Bank of Delaware or by serving in The Delaware Medical Reserve Corps.

I have advocated alongside so many others to protect abortion rights in our state.

I’ve studied how a flawed criminal justice system puts away low-income people, but doesn’t make our streets any safer.

I have mentored our youth to improve their STEM abilities. 

I wonder every day why we still allow military-style assault weapons in our communities.

I have experienced first-hand how the system isn’t serving us and I can no longer watch as our elected officials continue to let us down. 

That is why I am running for the Delaware State House. 

I believe we can make a real difference in the lives of regular people.

We can pass common sense gun laws, to encourage safety and responsibility without impeding liberty. 

We can create a Medicaid buy-in option to ensure that every Delawarean has access to affordable healthcare. 

We can be "smart on crime" to bring about real criminal justice reform.

We can transition Delaware into an environmentally friendly state and ensure environmental justice for all residents. We can build resilient infrastructure to protect us from the impacts that are coming.

We can make sure every child in Delaware has a high-quality education. 

We can make sure everyone has the right to choose what's right for their families. 

We can stabilize skyrocketing housing costs for individuals and families.

We can do more.
